Angelina Update

Hi this is Angelina again! I’m so happy to report that I was able to have my hip surgery! Once I recover from the operation, I’ll be able to romp and play like a normal pup again. Because I kept my weight off that leg for a while I have to build the muscles back up. I also had my entropion surgery so that my eyelashes are facing out and I don’t have to worry that my vision will become impaired. I’m also a lot more comfortable now and don’t have to scratch at my eyes anymore. Those eyelashes didn’t tickle! Best of all, I’ve found my forever home with a family who loves me and can handle my special needs. Thanks to all of you for helping me to heal and to North Shore Animal League America for making my dream a reality.

Angelina's Story

Hi I’m Angelina and I’m an eleven month-old Great Dane! I was brought to North Shore Animal League America after my mom died saving my whole litter me from a fire. She was a real hero to me and my brothers and sisters. In addition to my troubled beginnings, I now can’t put weight on my left hind leg because I have hip dysplasia. This requires surgery to correct and it’s pretty common in large breeds like myself. I long to run and play and be a normal puppy but the way things are right now, I have to be strictly monitored and my activity level has to be kept to a minimum so I don’t hurt myself further. On top of all this, I also have a condition where my eyelids turn inward and my eyelashes bother my eyes. This condition is called entropion and it makes my eyes tear a whole lot. If this is left uncorrected it can do permanent damage to my corneas. The good thing is that there is a surgery to help this condition as well. In the meantime I’ve been being cared for by the very special people who work in the Foster Care ward and they’ve made me feel as comfortable as possible. I’m a lucky girl to be here at North Shore Animal League America where I know you all will help me and other dogs and cats just like me to heal.
