Casey's Update
Hi, this is Casey again. I’ve had one heck of a month! My doctors stopped my medicine, Tapazole to get me ready for the radio iodine therapy. When my blood work was checked before the scheduled procedure, it was discovered that my thyroid was behaving properly on its own! Everyone was so excited for me, as I was deemed ‘healthy!’ I’m not out of the woods yet though because my blood work will need to be monitored very carefully for any further changes in the thyroid. The doctors are actually assuming that in the future I will need to have the procedure done. For now I’m up for adoption in our kennel and so thankful for all the love and pets I’ve gotten since I came to the Medical Center in December. Any money raised for the procedure that I didn’t have will go to help the other animals who still need to have surgeries – and that’s a promise. Thank you to all who support this wonderful program it really does make a difference.
PS Anyone in the tri-state area who wants to come down and meet me, I’m up for adoption and ready to go home! |

Casey's Story
Hi my name is Casey and I live here at North Shore Animal League America’s Medical Center in Ward 4. I’ve been here since the beginning of December, that’s when I was abandoned on the property. I’m about nine years old, I guess my previous owner just didn’t want to take care of me anymore. The kind folks here at the League took me in, gave me a nice, clean cage to sleep in and good food to eat. Since I’ve been here, it’s been determined that I’ve got a few medical problems. Luckily at this point nothing is too serious.
I have a heart murmur but it doesn’t have to be rechecked for 8 whole months! I also have a hyperactive thyroid which I’m on medicine for. I’ll have to be on medicine everyday for the rest of my life if I don’t have this special procedure done called radioiodine therapy. That’s where I receive an injection of radioiodine and it destroys the benign tumor that’s making my thyroid misbehave. Within the month, I hear, my thyroid will be functioning normally again! Then I won’t have to be on medicine for the rest of my life which will make me much more adoptable. North Shore Animal League America’s medical center does not do this procedure; I will be going to another hospital to have it done by a specialist. Once the doctors there say I can, I’ll come back to the League and go up for adoption.
It will be great when the day comes that I don’t have to take any more medicine! You can make a difference by supporting the Help Me Heal program so that I, and other cats and dogs just like me, can continue to get better and lead happy, healthy lives. |
